A Special Rocking Funky Blues Night with Big Dez

A European festival blues band who has performed at festivals in US and Canada are heading to Doncaster next month (March).

Big Dez, who took part in The Memphis Blues Challenge, are set to bring an evening of rocking funky blues to the Leopard music venue in Doncaster on Saturday, March 7.

Chris Hone, head of commercial development for Doncaster Catering Conferences and Events (DCCE), who manage the Leopard, said: “Big Dez have had rave reviews from lots of the top Blues magazines and we are really looking forward to welcoming them to Doncaster.

“The Leopard plays host to a wide range of different music styles and this will definitely be a blues night to remember.”

Phil Fernandez’s guitar work pays credit to the time he has spent in the US jamming with the likes of Luther Allison, WC Clark & Billy Branch and playing alongside Texas legend Uncle John Turner (drummer with Johnny Winter & Lightnin’ Hopkins) and the Fab Thunderbirds bassist Preston Hubbard and sax virtuoso Sax Gordon.

“Phil Fernandez’s slashing guitar combines Albert Collins’ icy tension with Johnny Guitar Watson’s metallic crunch, and his clear, booming, congenial vocals are not unlike Omar Kent Dykes.” Blues Revue magazine USA

“The rhythm section is solid and always there but never over the top whilst Bala delivers some blistering  organ breaks and solos and Fernandez plays some stinging guitar”. Digital Blues

“Big Dez are world class. They have recorded albums in Texas, play big festivals across Europe and are one of the best Euro Texas style blues bands, knocking spots off of many US counterparts. I’m sure we will see a lot more of Big Dez in the near future playing the UK festivals and clubs. Watch Out!”   Blues in Britain.
